red fox
The fox features in folklore all over the world. Usually noted for beauty or cunning. My favourite is the old Finnish belief which tells us that the Northern Lights are made by sparks flying from the tails of foxes as they runs across the tundra.
A rural fox is a pretty elusive fellow around these parts. Usually they have seen you first and smartly walked away. But I’ve found in urban environments, they are more confident and usually turn and look you right in the eye before they disappear into the night.
This needle felt fox stands about nine inches high (12.5cm) including the plinth and is around seven inches (18 cm) nose to tail. It is supported by a wire armature and shaped from local fleece. the fur and bushy tail is Merino wool.
The great thing about working on these larger animals is that I can add more details, like whiskers and claws.
